Program: Mindy Barker, Barker Associates

Mindy BarkerMindy Barker (cfo@mindybarkerassociates.com) is CEO of Barker Associates, financial strategist, author and a frequent guest speaker to up-and-coming entrepreneurs, experienced CEOs and CFOs, and nonprofit leaders.

As a financial strategist, Mindy works with her clients to develop positive cash flow and increase company value. Together they uncover areas to drive out waste in financial reporting, replacing it with dashboards to alert management to key organizational metrics to guide critical decisions. Mindy also coaches the C-level suite of entrepreneurial growth and private equity-backed companies on execution that moves the company to the next level. She has helped many investors package portfolio investments for sale to facilitate the most efficient exit. Mindy’s diverse experience adds depth to the due diligence process on the sell or buy side.

In 2018 Mindy published her first book, Pitching to Win: Strategies for Success, to help entrepreneurs and established business leaders alike understand the process of raising capital. She is working on her second book, currently untitled, to be released in 2019.

Mindy is the 2016 Small Business Leader of the Year for the JAX Chamber Health Council and was recently recognized as an honoree for Partners in Philanthropy for the Jacksonville Business Journal and United Way. Mindy is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, the Association of Corporate Growth, the Jacksonville Chamber, Women Business Owners, Vistage Speakers Bureau, and the Jacksonville Women’s Network.

Spotlight Speaker: Caren Anders, JEA Vice President/General Manager, Energy

Caren AndersCaren Anders has lead responsibility for producing and delivering energy to JEA’s 485,000 electric customers in a safe, reliable and cost-competitive manner, and in full compliance with regulatory objectives. In this role, she and her team are responsible for planning, constructing, operating and maintaining JEA’s electric system, including generation plants and transmission, substation and distribution systems.

Ms. Anders joined JEA in January 2019 from Duke Energy. A seasoned energy executive, she brings operational leadership, financial acumen, strategy and innovation, and compliance and risk management to her leadership role at JEA. At both Duke and Exelon Corp., she led high-performing teams across the energy spectrum, including Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Emerging Technologies, and Shared Services. Along with her vast electric experience, she also has expertise in new technologies, strategic business performance, compliance, financial management, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction.

Ms. Anders has served on the boards of PT Holding Company LLC, Peak Tower LLC, SERC Reliability Corp., and the Florida Reliability Coordination Council. She has also served her community as a board member for Junior Achievement, Central Carolinas and United Way, Greater Triangle N.C. She earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in finance from Drexel University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.
